Compose the home page: blocks, sections and buttons

The home page is edited right on the page, in edit mode: change blocks, drag them, preview as another audience, then Publish sends everything at once.

On this page
  1. Open edit mode
  2. Add, move, delete
  3. Block types
  4. Banner buttons
  5. See what others see
  6. Undo, discard, publish

In short. The home page is made of sections, which hold blocks (banner, text, server status, applications...). You edit them on the real page, in edit mode: click a title or a text to change it, drag a block to move it. Nothing goes live before Publish.

Open edit mode #

  1. Sign in with an account that can edit the forum structure (administrators, by default).
  2. Open the home page and click Edit (next to the section list), or open /?edition=1 directly.
  3. An "Edit the home page" banner appears at the top. To leave, click Exit edit mode.

Without the right, the /?edition=1 address is simply ignored: you see everyone's page. A fresh install never has an empty home page: Agora shows a default one (community area, citizen area, whitelist area) that you edit as it is.

Add, move, delete #

ActionHow
Change a title or a textClick it. Text accepts Markdown (bold, links, lists, headings)
Add a block+ Add a block between two blocks, then pick the type in the gallery
Add a section+ Add a section
MoveDrag the ⠿ handle, or use Move up / Move down. A block can change section
Adjust a blockSettings button in its toolbar: alignment, image, destination...
Hide it without losing itDisable (and Enable to bring it back)
Choose who sees itVisible to: everyone, signed-in members, whitelisted players, or specific groups
DeleteMore actions menu then Delete; tick the confirmation, deletion is permanent

A section is a title that groups the blocks placed below it; its visibility applies to all its content.

Block types #

BlockWhat it shows
BannerLarge image with title, subtitle and buttons
TextA welcome message, the rules, an announcement
Forum sectionsThe list of categories and their sections
Latest threadsThe most recent ones, from one section or the whole forum
Server statusOnline or not, connected players, a join button
ApplicationsWhitelist open or closed, with the apply button
TeamRoles marked "appears on the Team page" and their members
DonationsOne campaign and its progress
DiscordA short text and the invite button
Job offers, Dealership, Classified ads, NewspaperAutomatic: filled from game and site data. Classified ads and Newspaper are part of the MDT: without the license that covers it, these two blocks do not show on the home page

A block that nothing can fill (no active campaign, no job hiring, empty Discord invite) carries an "Empty block" note and does not show to visitors.

In a banner's Settings, click + Add a button, then enter:

  • the button label (typed right on the button);
  • the destination: a page of the site (/candidatures) or an https://... address;
  • the style: primary or secondary.

Add as many as you like and reorder them. Remove this button takes one away. An address that is neither internal nor https is refused.

See what others see #

In the edit-mode banner, Preview as simulates a signed-out visitor, a signed-in member with no particular role, or a whitelisted player. Blocks that audience cannot see are tagged "Hidden in this preview".

Undo, discard, publish #

Your changes are a draft, visible only to you. The bottom bar counts them and offers:

  • Undo: reverts the last change;
  • Discard: drops the whole draft (a confirmation is asked);
  • Publish: sends everything at once.

Each touched item is tagged: Added, Edited, Moved, Removed. Publishing is all or nothing: if one change is refused (empty banner, empty title, invalid destination...), nothing is written and the error shows next to the block. If another administrator published in the meantime, Agora refuses and offers to Reload: redo your changes then. At most 200 changes per publication.

If you leave the page with unpublished changes, the browser warns you.

Forum categories and sections are edited the same way, with Apply instead of Publish: see Organise the forum.
