Moderate the forum: hide, archive, mandatory reason
Nothing is ever deleted: a post is hidden, a thread is archived, and every action requires a reason sent to the author.

In short. Two rules apply to every moderation action. Nothing is ever deleted: a thread is archived, a post is hidden, and both can be undone. Every action requires a reason (one word is enough), kept in the log and sent to the author.
Who moderates #
- Staff:
adminandmoderateurgroups, not suspended, with 2FA if you require it. - Groups given the Moderate the forum right (Administration → Roles), everywhere or in some sections only.
On a thread page #

The Moderation panel (collapsed, under the title) offers:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Pin / unpin | The thread goes to the top of the section |
| Close / reopen | No more replies, except staff |
| Rename | New title (3 to 150 characters, on one line, no invisible characters). The address does not change |
| Move | To another section |
| Archive | The thread disappears for members, nothing is erased |
On each post:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Hide | The post disappears for members |
| Restore | It comes back as it was |
| Edit history | The text before each edit, who changed it and when |
Hidden posts stay visible to staff, greyed out, with who hid them, when and why. Numbering (#42) does not change.
Archives #
Moderation → Archives lists archived threads, with who, when and why. They can be searched by title.
- Open the archived thread (red banner).
- Click Restore and give a reason.
- The thread comes back as it was, and its author is notified.
There is no permanent deletion, not even for an administrator, and no automatic purge.
The Forum moderation page #
Forum moderation (link on the section list for moderators, edit mode banner for administrators) lists the 30 latest threads, searchable by title (80 characters at most), with pin, close, move and archive, and the number of archived threads. If more than 30 threads match your search, a message says so ("Only the 30 most recent threads matching your search are listed: refine it to find the others").
What the author sees #
They get a "moderation decision" notification with the reason (except for a pin): post hidden or restored, thread closed, moved, renamed, archived or restored, warning. If you move a thread to a private section its author cannot read, the notification tells them their thread was moved but gives no link (they could not open it).
