On this page
In short. You can request a refund of your last payment yourself, from your space. The request is approved automatically within the set window. There is no prorated refund.
The windows #
| Purchase | Refund window |
|---|---|
| Monthly, 30-day extended trial | 7 days after payment |
| Yearly, lifetime license | 30 days after payment |
One automatic refund per 12-month period.
A $0 payment (a month offered through referral, a 100% promo code): nothing was charged, so there is nothing to refund. No refund window is announced in My purchases for that payment.
Request the refund #
- My account → My purchases.
- On the purchase, the line "Automatic refund available until …" shows: click Request a refund.
- Read the confirmation, then confirm. The site first asks for a 6-digit code received by email (or the one from your authenticator app).
What happens #
- The amount is refunded to your payment method (it comes back within a few days).
- The subscription is stopped (even when the refund is made from Stripe or by the team: a refunded purchase no longer renews).
- The period paid by that payment is removed, with no grace period: the MDT and Pro features lock at once. The forum stays open.
- At Stripe, whatever was still payable is canceled: the subscription's open invoices (for example an upgrade waiting for 3-D Secure validation), the payment page of a "lifetime" difference and the tier change in progress. See Change tier (trial, Basic, Pro).
This is final.
Refunding a tier upgrade (Basic → Pro) #
If the refunded payment is that of a tier upgrade, you do not lose your whole license: it goes back to the previous tier (Basic) and keeps the expiry you had already paid at that tier, never extended. The subscription is stopped, so no further charge: you keep the previous tier to the end of what you had paid. An upgrade lost in a dispute (see Payment disputes) follows the same rule.
Only the refund of the original purchase cuts the license. If no paid time is left at the old tier, the ordinary rule applies (ends with no grace period). An upgrade made before this rule keeps the old behavior.
No refund during a dispute #
If a dispute is open (or lost) on that payment with your bank, the refund is refused: "A dispute is open on this payment with your bank: it cannot be refunded until the dispute is settled". Nothing is touched, your subscription is not stopped. The payment provider refuses to refund a contested payment anyway, and stopping the subscription first would cut you off without refunding you. In My purchases, the Request a refund button is then no longer offered: the purchase carries a message explaining the situation instead (license suspended, subscription paused). Contact us: see Payment disputes.
Refunded automatically by the site #
Sometimes the site refunds you by itself, right after the payment: the extended trial was no longer available for your account (already used, or a paid license is active), the promo code reached its usage limit while you were paying, or the "trial → paid" discount had already been used for that server. The purchase then shows Refunded in My purchases, with the reason ("Refunded automatically: …"). No license was created; you can buy again at the regular price. The refund can take a few days to show up at your bank.
When it is not automatic #
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| The automatic refund window has passed | Open a ticket if you think there is a mistake |
| Only one automatic refund per 12-month period | Open a ticket: the team looks at it with you |
| This purchase justifies your 2nd instance discount | Open a ticket |
| Too many billing actions in a short time | Wait a few minutes (see Subscription and renewal) |
See Open a ticket.
Rather than a refund #
You only want to stop paying? Disable renewal: you keep the period already paid. See Subscription and renewal.
Do not go through your bank to dispute a payment: a dispute suspends the license. See Payment disputes.
